Snow Patrol - Run
This music video is Snow Patrol's 'Run'. At the begining of the music video we saw our protagonist and band member walking along a country road pushing alongside him a motorbike, as the video fades in we see a long shot of the protagonist pushing the bike, as the sun goes down symbolising the shift in mood to a darker atmosphere. The editing of this shot shows the footage to have been slowed down to emphasize the importance of his journey and highlight the distance travelled. We then cut to a medium shot on the protagonist's lower leg and part of the motorbike and then the camera pans around to give the audience their first look at our protagonist whilst also introducing us the performance element within the video. This video incorperates a combination of a performance element weaved into the narrative structure, this is shown when the protagonist (lead singer) is singing the song lyrics whilst on his journey, this is the first time we see this and we as an audience get a sense that there is a story to be told and that it concerns the protagonist and his journey. The first look at our protagonist shows him to be a tall caucasian man with dark hair wearing a black trench coat with a dark murky green turtle neck jumper beneath, these dark colours reflect upon the emotions and general mood of our protagonist, implying that he is full of despair, that and the lyrics would imply that he has experienced some emotional conflict with a former lover, for example "You've been the only thing that's right, in all i've done". We then see the protagonist throw down the motorbike in frustration, provoking the question: What has happened to this man? We then see the protagonist venture from the country road down onto a cornfield showing his separation from society. We then see a link between the Visuals of the video and the lyrics of the song when the Protagonist says "Light up" he lights a flare walks around swinging the flare around, this is a first sign of the chaotic and destructive atmosphere within the video, this carrys on as the protagonist walks through the cornfield as the band members around him run around with flares and another member rides the motorbike that we saw earlier around until we finally see it in flames as it tumbles down a hill into a river extingushing the fire showing that balance has been restored and the anarchy has come to an end. During the course of the video we see multiple close ups of the protagonist's face so that the audience can relate with the protagonist.
